Wounded in action, 27 August 1915; admitted to HS 'Maheno', Gallipoli, 28 August 1915; transferred to Mudros, 29 August 1915, and thence to England, 30 August 1915, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham,, 16 September 1915. Transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 2 October 1916; appointed Temporary Squadron Sergeant Major, Hornchurch, 2 October 1916; Camp Sergeant Major, Hornchurch, 15 November 1916. Appointed Warrant Officer (Class I), 6 February 1917. Commenced return to New Zealand from Tilbury on board HT 'Briton', 17 June 1919; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of wounds received in action), 21 August 1919.
