'In "No Man's Land" near Armentieres, night 3rd/4th November 1916. This man took part in the successful raid carried out on the night 3rd/4th November 1916, by a party of 2nd Auckland Batt. under 2nd Lieutenant C. Hally against the portion of the trenches held by the Germans at the Pont Ballot Salient east of Houplines. He acted with great courage and was of much assistance to his NCO in setting an example to his party by bombing the dugouts and killing Germans.
