Mentioned in Despatches 'For conspicuous gallantry in assaulting a machine gun crew and capturing the gun during the Battle of Messines on 7th June 1917. When the advance was threatened by machine gun fire from cover, he led his section into our own barrage, bombed the crew of the machine gun, and carried the gun further on. He was killed while getting the gun into action.'
