I was a stretcher bearer & last month (Oct) snout 20 or 22nd we went out at Passchendaele. Cpl Duvall was taking his section over about five minutes after the hop over. I saw a shell land right amongst them. Five were dead & 2 wounded, of whom one, Bruce, died in Hosp. ut we could see nothing of Duvall. It was 5.30 to 6 am & you could see but not far. We took out the wnd & looked about, & we had another look next day before finishing up. I think he must have stopped the shell himself.' Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
