'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12th October 1917 and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. As a Regimental Stretcher Bearer, this man displayed great bravery and devotion to duty in rescuing wounded under heavy fire. For two days and nights he carried on continuously and his good work undoubtedly saved the lives of many of his comrades.'
