'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations against Grevillers on the 24th August. Sgt Dowsing displayed great bravery in rushing and bombing a machine gun that was holding up the advance of his Company. He set a splendid example to his men throughout.'

Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack near La Signy Farm on 30th March 1918 he commanded a platoon after his Officer had been wounded. His excellent leadership was the cause of capturing several machine guns and assisted greatly in reaching the objective.'
