Embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force in France, 6 April 1916. Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 2 July 1916 (burritis); transferred to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 3 July 1916; rejoined unit, 18 July 1916. Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 29 April 1917 (scabies); transferred to 4th Stationary Hospital, 29 April 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 24 May 1917. Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 5 June 1917 (ICT hand), and transferred same day to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 6 June 1917; to England, 10 June 1917, and admitted same day to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst.
