Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed the greatest courage as a stretcher bearer, in bringing in wounded while under heavy fire. He has set a fine example throughout.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917. He showed great courage during the
advance and consolidation, after which he volunteered for service, clearing the battlefield of the wounded. He bandaged up a number of wounded men and assisted in getting many to the Dressing Station during the day and night, working the greater part of the time under heavy machine gun fire.'
