Admitted to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 26 January 1918 (bronchitis); discharged to No 6 Convalescent Depot, 9 March 1918; transferred to No 5 Convalescent Depot, Cayeux, 15 May 1918; marched in to NZ Base Depot, 2 April 1918. Joined Bn, and posted to 10th Company, 11 April 1918.

Wounded in action, 25 July 1918 (shrapnel wound, left cheek and left arm), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred to 56th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 July 1918; to Ambulance Train No 2, 27 July 1918, and admitted to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 28 July 1918. Transferred to England, 31 July 1918, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 1 August 1918; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 3 September 1918. Discharged to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 4 October 1918, and granted leave to 19 October 1918.

Commenced return to New Zealand from Liverpool on board SS 'Oxfordshire', 19 December 1918; discharged, 2 March 1919.
