Military Medal 'East of Ypres on the 4th October 1917 this Company Runner showed an absolute disregard for danger and carried out his duties in a most magnificent manner. When the Company reached its objective it was necessary to send back a message through heavy barrage fire when the dangerous gap existed in the line. This soldier volunteered for, and was successful in, getting the message back to H.Q. in a very short space of time. At all times during the action he displayed the same courage and resolute devotion to duty, being a wonderful example to his fellows.'
