Proceeded overseas to France, 12 August 1916; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 24 August 1916, and posted to 8th Company.

Admitted to 15th Casualty Clearing Station, 27 September 1916 (enteritis), and transferred same day to 38th Casulaty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train, 29 September 1916, and admitted to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 28 September 1916; transferred to England, 9 October 1916, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 10 October 1916 (enteritis: slight); discharged to Command Depot, Codford, 4 November 1916; marched into 3rd Reserve Bn, Sling Camp, 1 March 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 1 March 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 21 May 1917.

Detached to 3rd Field Company NZ Engineers, 21 July 1917; rejoined Bn, 18 August 1917.
