'Throughout the day of the battle of Amman he exceeded his duties as Stretcher Bearer. Regardless of personal danger he kept going from post to post under the heaviest of shell fire extricating wounded, rendering first aid and helping them down the hill. Through the long and most trying day his continual visits round the line were of the greatest value to our wounded and a gallant example to all ranks.'
