Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On October 8th, 1918 in a Sunken Road near Lesdain, his platoon was temporarily held up by intense machine gun fire from a point just in front of a Sunken Road. L/Corporal Day rushed forward firing his gun from his hip, and silenced the enemy machine gun, taking 7 prisoners. He then dashed forward to the edge of the sunken road, enfiladed the garrison and inflicted very heavy casualties.'
