Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He did especially valuable work in assisting in organisation and directing the operations when all of his company officers except one had been wounded. He set a fine example of personal courage and energy.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Mentioned in Despatches 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During enemy raid on night of 22/23rd February 1917, at St Yves Hill, under heavy bombardment, he kept his Lewis gun in action, firing on S.O.S lines. On the night of 8th February 1917, in the Cordonnerie Sector, when the enemy attempted a raid under cover of an intense bombardment, Sergeant Davis kept his Lewis gun in action throughout the bombardment, firing on S.O.S lines and materially assisted in the repulse of the enemy.'
