Distinguished Service Order 'Operations from 20th September 1916 to 20 February 1917. This officer took over duties of Staff Captain N.Z.F.A. in November 1915. Before that he had done very good work as a Captain of the 4th Howitzer Battery at Gallipoli. He displayed great bravery at the battle of Chunuk Bair where he commanded an improvised Battery.
He had no previous experiences in Staff Captain's work, but has been assiduous in his attention to duty, and has now a very good knowledge of his duties. There has never been a hitch in the supply of ammunition in the Division. His predominant
quality is tact: his previous experience in business has been of great use in helping him to carry out the duties of his appointment ? he is also very hard working.'
