War service: Egypt, Western Front Disembarked Suez, 20 December 1915. Admitted to NZ General Hospital, Zeitoun, 16 January 1916 (influenza); transferred to Convalescent Camp, Zeitoun, 6 February 1916. Posted to No 3 Company, New Zealand Engineers, Ismailia, 10 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British expeditionary Force, France, 7 April 1916. Found guilty, 2 April 1917, of neglecting to obey an order; absent without leave: forfeited 4 days' pay. Wounded in action, 5 October 1917 (slight); remained with unit; admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 8 October 1917; discharged to duty and rejoined unit same day. On leave to Paris, 5 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 15 February 1918. Marched out to England for tour of duty, 7 July 1918. Commenced return to New Zealand from Southampton on board HT 'Willochra', 8 March 1919; disembarked Wellington, 15 April 1919; discharged, 13 May 1919.
