Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry, skill, and leadership. On 13th September 1918, while in the Front Line in the Metz Sector, Lance Corporal Cuthill while in charge of a forward post, showed conspicuous gallantry and initiative in repelling a strong enemy attack during which many casualties were inflicted on the enemy. Later on the same day during an intense bombardment of the front line, this N.C.O. showed conspicuous gallantry and exceptional leadership in repelling three determined attacks on his post causing many casualties. His gallantry and leadership was a magnificent example to his comrades.'
