Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 15th February 1918, at about 9am, while his Battalion was holding the Reutel Sector, east of Ypres, Sergeant Crooker was on duty in the Front line Trench. His attention was drawn to signs of
new work in No Mans Land by Private MacDonald, an observer. These two soldiers immediately crawled out and discovered a sniping Post, occupied by five Germans. They at once attacked and captured the post, killing one of the enemy, and capturing the other four, one of whom was wounded. In broad daylight the prisoners were then escorted back to our lines. This NCO's courage and determination in attacking in daylight in face of such superior numbers is worthy of the highest praise, and sets a splendid example to his comrades.'
