This non-commissioned officer did exceptionally good work showing great coolness and leadership. On 27th March 1918 he was in command of a section in front line trench. A party of enemy attempted to rush his part of the trench and also tried to advance up and old C.T. He kept his section well in hand and directed rifle fire against the enemy, and when the enemy approached near enough, his section, under his orders, bombed the enemey successfully, inflicting many casualties and causing them to withdraw.
