Military Medal 'Battalion runner during the whole of the offensive operations leading to the taking of the Messines Ridge, this runner showed marked courage. He was always the first to volunteer for a dangerous run and his ability in finding his way over unknown country on the dark night was extraordinary. Although slightly gassed and twice blown up by a shell, he remained on duty to whole time.'
