Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 15th October, 1918, on St. Quentin Canal. He succeeded in capturing in succession four machine and sixteen prisoners, who were harassing the left flank from a sunken road. On one occasion the enemy officer, after holding up his hands, endeavoured to stab one of his party. L./C. Coppell immediately shot him dead.'
