War service: Western Front Embarked Dunedin, 21 August 1916; posted as deserter from ship at Cape Town, South Africa, 21 October 1916; re-embarked on board HT 'Port Sydney' (date not recorded). Marched into Sling Camp, 6 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 November 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 4 December 1916, and posted to 4th Company. Found guilty, 31 January 1917, of loss of Government property: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and ordered to pay cost of articles lost, 1/2. Detached to Reinforcements Camp, 5 June 1917. Admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, 28 June 1917; discharged to duty, 4 July 1917. Rejoined Bn from Reinforcements Camp, 21 July 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
