War service: Egypt, Gallipoloi, Western Front Wounded in action, Gallipoli, 9 August 1915 (gun shot wound, right leg); disembarked from HS 'Itonus', and admitted to St George's Hospital, Malta, 14 August 1915; transferred to England, 13 September 1915, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 21 September 1915. Returned to Egypt,16 February 1916, and taken on strength, 9th Battery, Moascar, 1 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria for France, 7 April 1916. Found guilty, 26 November 1916, of being absent from billet, 4 pm to 10.05 pm: confined to barracks for 4 days and forfeited 1 day's pay. Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 4 April 1917 (scabies),and transferred same day to North Casualty Clearing Station; discharged to duty, 16 April 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 23 April 1917.
