Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Hebuterne on 15th July 1918 his Company was engaged in an advance on th enemy front line. His platoon was held up by Machine Gun fire and he immediately divided his men personally leading a bombing party and engaging the attention of the enemy gunners while the other parties worked from the flanks and closed with the enemy causing them to surrender. After consolidating his position he rendered valuable service in establishing posts in the most forward line. To his resourcefulness and coolness in danger is very largely due the sucess of the platoon's action.'
