Proceeded overseas to France, 23 July 1917; joined 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 15 August 1917. Reported wounded in action (date not recorded) (gun shot wound, chest wall and head); admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 4 October 1917; transferred to 3rd General Hospital, 5 October 1917; to England, and admitted to Mile End Military Hospital, 2 November 1917; discharged to NZ Convalescent hospital, Hornchurch, 9 November 1917; discharged on furlough, 11 January 1918; marched into NZ command Depot, Codford, 19 January 1918. Admitted to No 3 NZ General Hospital, Codford, 9 April 1918 (hernia); transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 7 May 1918.
