Military Medal 'On the 26th August 1918 near Bapaume. This N.C.O. laid a wire to a forward O.P. under heavy fire, and although the enemy maintained a constant barrage on our trenches he persistently patrolled the wire and maintained communications to his Battery, enabling many important targets to be engaged. At night when the Battery was being shelled and was out of touch he went out and mended all its wires.'

Throughout the day he worked incessantly on the wire running back from the O.P. over the crest. This crest was continually under fire from M.G. and Snipers and also Barrage by H.E. The only possible way of approaching or leaving the O.P. was by crawling over the crest, a distance of 150 yards. In spite of the fire Bombardier Cochran patrolled the wire throughout the day and kept communication to Brigade Headquarters. So badly was the wire cut that 5 times a fresh wire had to be run out. It was owing to the utter disregard of personal safety of Bombardier Cochran that the Brigade was able to keep in touch with the situation and assist the Infantry.'
