Mentioned in Despatches 'Operations Messines 7th to 9th June 1917, and operations opposite Warneton 14th to 19th June 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. As a
stretcher bearer this man showed great bravery in carrying wounded men through heavy shell fire during the battle of Messines. Again, during the operations in front of La Basse Ville on the 13th and 14th of June, in broad daylight, he alone carried a man 400 yards back to our trenches under heavy machine gun fire. His prompt and brave action undoubtedly saved his comrades life.'
