Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At the attack on Bapaume on the 28th August 1918 he skillfully and boldly pushed forward his gun beyond the Infantry amongst the outposts, and though he was in a precarious position when the time of attack was delayed for two hours after dawn, he maintained his
position, and was able to reduce and silence the fire of enemy machine guns, two of which he knocked out at close range. His bold initiative and contempt of danger set a splendid example to his men, and this gun materially assisted the advance of our Infantry in a critical situation.'
