Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a minor attack on Rossignol Wood on the night 15th July 1918, Sergeant Clark was selected to replace the officer, who had been killed, detailed to superintended the wiring of the posts
establishing inside the fringe of the Wood. In spite of the fact that hostile machine guns persistently swept the area to be wired this NCO reorganised the party, and carried on wiring till dawn with splendid results. The following night he
took our another party and completed the wire along the newly established front, although he was so close to the enemy that he was frequently bombed. The successful consolidation was largely due to the dogged determination and inspiring example of Sergeant Clark.'

When acting C.S.M. during the operations, by his coolness and gallant conduct throughout ? particularly on 29th September, when his Company's flank was in the air, it became necessary to use Company Headquarters as a fighting section. He, by his gallant conduct and his skilful handling, materially assisted in the repulse of the enemy and so enabled his Company's advanced position, which was of great tactical value, to be maintained.'
