Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917. This NCO was in charge of the Battalion
Carrying Party and showed great devotion to duty in the execution of this work ? at times under very heavy machine gun and shell fire, both by day and night. Though badly gas burned, he continued unremittingly and set a splendid example
to his men throughout the whole operations.'
