'I have the honour to forward a despatch describing events in Syria and Palestine subsequent to the conclusion of the Armistice with Turkey on 31st October, 1918. I have taken the opportunity in this despatch to give a brief general summary of the campaigns in this theatre, and to express my thanks to some of those who have assisted me during my command of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. (General Edmund Allenby). Lieut-General Sir H. Chauvel also acted as General Officer Commanding Australian Imperial Force in Egypt, while Major-General Sir W. E. Chaytor acted as General Officer Commanding New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Egypt. I take this opportunity of expressing my high appreciation of the services of these officers and of the Australian and New Zealand troops which formed a large proportion of my force.'
