Embarked Wellington, 15 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917, and marched into Sling Camp, and reverted to the ranks.

Proceeded overseas to France, 1 March 1917; joined 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 25 May 1917, and posted to C Company.

Found guilty, 18 July 1917, of failing to obey an order: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Reported missing, 12 October 1917.

Court of Enquiry, 18 April 1918, concluded: 'Killed in action, 12 October 1918.'

Statement, Adjutant, 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade: 'Rfm Cassidy went into action with the Bn at Passchendaele on 12-10-17. He was reported as "missing". No evidence forthcoming to show that he passed through hospitals or any Mil. Base since that day.'
