Military Medal 'This non-commissioned officer was in command of the signallers of the 2nd, Auckland Battalion, and from the commencement of the action showed wonderful resource and energy. By his efforts telephonic communication was established between the Switch Trench and the forward Brigade report centre within half an hour of the position being taken, and the telephone line was maintained under very heavy shellfire, being practically the only means of communication between the battalion and Divisional Headquarters.'
