Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 7 December 1917 (myalgia, back); transferred to No 3 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 9 December 1917; discharged to duty, 27 December 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 28 December 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 17 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 4 April 1918.

Admitted to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, 21 April 1918 (not yet diagnosed); transferred to England, 27 April 1918, and admitted same day to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames (pleurisy); transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Brockenhurst, 14 May 1918.

Classified 'unfit' by NZ Medical Board, 1 June 1918.

Commenced return to New Zealand on board HMNZT 'Marama', 7 August 1918; discharged (no longer being physically fit for War Service on account of illness contracted on Active Service), 17 February 1919.
