War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Wellington, 8 January 1916; disembarked Suez, 12 February 1916; joined 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, Ismailia, 11 March 1916; transferred to 2nd Bn, 5 April 1916. Embarked Alexandria for France, 8 April 1916. Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, right leg, right foot: slight), and admitted to 77th Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station; to 35th General Hospital, Calais, 8 June 1917; to England, 12 June 1917, and admitted same day to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst. Classified 'unfit' by Medical Board, 6 July 1917, and placed on NZ Roll.
