Military Medal 'For continuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field during operations extending from 5.7.18 to 31.8.18. This NCO did excellent work during the above period at the commencement of the enemy withdrawal in front of Gommecourt. Acting on his own initiative he kept in close touch with the enemy near parties, and was responsible for the driving in of several enemy posts established in sap heads. On one occasion he himself accounted for an entire post by active sniping. His qualities of leadership, bravery and initiative earned him the regard of all his men who were undoubtedly inspired by the example he invariably set them.'
