Wounded in action, 12 July 1916 (gun shot wound, left hip), and admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred to Australian Hospital, Wimereux; to England, 14 July 1916, and admitted to 2nd London General Hospital, Chelsea, 15 July 1916; transferred to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 28 July 1916; to NZ Convalescent Camp, Hornchurch, 8 August 1916; to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 20 September 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, and marched into NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 1 November 1916.
