Military Medal 'Operations opposite Polderhoek 27th November to 5th December 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 3rd December 1917, during the attack on Polderhoek Chateau, this man acted as a Company runner, and under the most dangerous circumstances carried messages backwards and forwards, invariably being compelled to cross areas which were swept by machine gun and rifle fire as well as the enemy's artillery barrage. His bravery and utter disregard for his personal safety made possible the transmission of most urgent messages. On the following day he was wounded when carrying messages in the same sector.'
