Embarked Wellington, 14 April 1917; disembarked, 17 April 1917; re-embarked, 26 April 1917; disembarked Sydney, Australia, 2 May 1917; re-embarked 9 May 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 28 July 1917, and marched into Sling Camp.

Proceeded overseas to France, 14 September 1917; joined 4th Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 8 October 1917, and posted to A Company.

Reported missing, believed prisoner of war, 12 October 1917.

Court of Enquiry, 25 April 1918, concluded: 'Missing for 6 months. No evidence to shew his fate. Finding: Killed in action, 12 October 1917.'

Statement to Court, 26/895 Rifleman H. ROBINSON, A Company, 4th Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade: I was going on ration fatigue with Rfm. Butler. We lost our way & wandered into a German patrol. I called out to Butler to run & ran myself & got into a shell hole. Myself & Rfm. Butler were only about a yard from the patrol whom we met while running away. The patrol opened fire & I saw no sign of Rfm. Butler again.'
