Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 1st October 1918, during a strong enemy counter attack on Crevecoeur L/Corporal Butler together with another linesman maintained, under heavy enemy Shell and Machine Gun fire, a line between Battalion Headquarters and the forward troops. He showed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty with an utter disregard for personal danger.'
