Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 23rd October, 1918. Very early in the attack he assumed command of his company, all the other officers having become casualties. He led his company forward in face of heavy shell and machine gun fire with great boldness and skill. When troops on his right were held up, he rushed the river and led his men to the other side, thus enabling the troops on his right to push forward. On reaching the objective he quickly reorganised his company under heavy fire. His behaviour was a very fine example to all ranks.'
