Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field near Briastre on 11th and 12th October, 1918. This man acted as a stretcher bearer and was unceasing in his efforts to assist the wounded. He carried in many wounded under heavy machine gun fire, and by his fine work many lives where saved, and much suffering prevented. He showed an absolute disregard for his own personal safety, and before the Company was relieved immediately after an attack, he went round the Company area and made certain that the wounded were not left lying out.'
