Military Medal 'For continuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field during operations extending from 21.8.18 to 14.9.18. This NCO has given splendid proof of his work in recent operations and has throughout led his section with such skill and gallantry as to inspire his men in a most remarkable manner. Particularly during the fighting of the 13th September in African Trench east of Havrincourt Wood he did splendid
work in establishing a block in a sunken road from which the enemy were enfilading our line of advance, and by keeping up a steady fire from this block undoubtedly saved the advancing troops many casualties.'
