Military Medal 'For his splendid example of courage and devotion to duty during the Bapaume operations on 26th August 1918. This N.C.O. commanded a platoon in an attack on this Bapaume-Camerai Road and conducted the advance of his part of the line with skill and initiative. Although wounded Sergeant Brunton refused to leave the line and later when the enemy counter-attacked he held his men together and supervised the digging in and consolidation of the line. He showed great ability in action, had good control over his men, and at all times set a splendid example of courage and endurance.'
