Military Medal 'For conspicuous devotion to duty. During the action near Gravenstafel, on 4th Oct. 1917, he was wounded in the leg and arm, by shell splinters. He continued the attack and assisted to consolidate the captured position. Through a cold and wet night, he remained at his post which was at times subjected to heavy shell fire, until ordered to the rear, by his commanding officer. His determination and devotion to duty, were a splendid example to his comrades.'
