Appointed Temporary Corporal, 28 September 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 October 1916; joined 1st Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 4 November 1916, and posted to C Company. Relinquished temporary rank of Corporal at own request, 12 October 1916. Detached to Lewis Gun School, 3 December 1916; rejoined Bn, 11 December 1916. Detached to NZ Wing II, ANZAC Reinforcements Camp, 30 May 1917; detached for Escort Duty, 4 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 19 July 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
