Medal of St George, 2nd Class (Russia) 'For gallantry in the defence of the Mushroom near Chapelle d'Armentieres on the night of the 8th/9th July, 1916. This NCO after his Officer and Platoon Sergeant were killed took charge of the Garrison of the Mushroom and he refused to surrender himself and his men when ordered to do so by a German Officer, and although wounded, he fought his way with his men down the sap and blocked and held it until relief arrived.'
