Since June 1916 he has been Adjutant of this Battalion, and during the fighting at the Somme he had on many occasions to perform his various duties and make reconnaissance under very heavy fire. He displayed great coolness and bravery in action and showed marked ability and devotion to duty under all circumstances, especially during period 21
