Military Medal 'For great gallantry. During the attack of the New Zealand Division east of St Julien on October 4th 1917, Private Wotherspoon acted as a Battalion runner and was employed in carrying messages over country swept by rifle and machine gun fire, and frequently shelled by the enemy. He showed coolness throughout and was ever ready to perform what was required of him.'
