Mentioned in Despatches 'During the period 1st to 21st October 1916, this Officer rendered invaluable services in control of the guns of this Battery near Flers under constant heavy fire. During the greater part of this period the O.C. battery lived at the observation post and
Lieutenant Woods was the senior officer at the guns. After the evacuation of the O.C. Lieutenant Woods assumed command of the battery and commanded the same during the last two weeks of the above period with complete success. He eventually withdrew the battery and reentered the line, still in temporary command, about 8th November 1916, in the Cordonnerie sector (Sailly) until the
end of December 1916. He has invariably performed excellent service under all conditions, and has been previously recommended for a specific act of gallantry on September 16th on the Somme.'
